Charlotte Street Arts Centre

Capital Campaign

Charlotte Street Arts Centre (CSAC) is a cornerstone of Fredericton’s cultural community. We strive to make arts experiences available to all. To grow in our mission, we are adapting our historic 1884 building to be more accessible to everyone, regardless of age or ability. We’re also improving our public spaces so that CSAC can offer a first class experience for small venue performances.

Exciting things are happening at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre!

Renovaton & Expansion plans

We’ve been working on an addition to our building that houses an accessible lobby, a new elevator that makes all floors fully reachable, and a box office for our performance hall. We will refurbish our 175 seat small venue performance space and have created a new backstage area, a green room, and additional rooms that are available for rent to artists or arts organizations.

We are so excited to announce that the performance space at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre has been named after a remarkable leader, an advocate for inclusiveness, director of community arts & theatre, teacher, and friend, Mr. Jim Myles.

"Jim Myles taught for over 30 years at Fredericton High School, receiving the Prime Minister's Award for Teaching Excellence in 1999.

Jim directed the FHS musical production for over 20 years. His productions were known for their high quality, inclusiveness, and camaraderie. Many FHS grads, including myself, will cite the production as the highlight of their high school career.

Jim coached many actors who went on to star on Broadway and the Canadian theatre scene, including his son, David Myles, and Measha Brueggergosman, both of whom are Juno winners. Jim organized school trips around the world, and he continued to direct international tours after he retired." - The Honourable Matt DeCourcey, M.P.

Join us in reaching our goal for this wonderful campaign, and become part of this legacy project; we thank you for your support and generosity.

Be sure to look out for our official Grand Opening in the Spring!

The Jim Myles Auditorium is already seeing more action this year than ever before! With the addition of a backstage, Fredericton Community Foundation Green Room, Community Arts Room (with kitchenette), and a beautiful lobby; this performing arts venue will soon be an amazing resource for community groups and performers to use.  In order to bring this venue to the caliber that Jim Myles would have been proud of, we are reaching out to the public and private sectors to complete our goal for the remaining $500,000 of the $1.9 million project.

Although the Accessibility wing is now physically complete, it still requires many key pieces of equipment and upgrades in order to successfully activate the space. Here are some of the things that we are looking forward to:

      • Lift  (for loading dock)
      • Flooring upgrade
      • New/upgraded sound and lighting gear
      • More curtains for the stage
      • Furniture (removable seats, tables, seating area in lobby, etc.)
      • Window treatment
      • WiFi
      • Signage and Map of the new and renovated spaces
      • ...and so much more!!

Fredericton Community Foundation Green Room

We are proud to name the Green Room after the Fredericton Community Foundation! After years of support for our ArtReach programming, the foundation generously awarded the Charlotte Street Arts Centre the Community Impact Grant for 2017 in recognition of the centre's Accessibility Expansion Project, and in turn we wanted to honour them with this dedication. Thank you to the Fredericton Community Foundation for your continued support!

Community Arts Room

This room will be home to the CSAC’s much valued ArtsReach program, developed by artists and cultural supporters. ArtsReach has already positively impacted hundreds of children, youth at risk, seniors, newcomer families, abused women, the homeless, mental health patients and those coping with post incarceration transition.

Elevator Donor

The very critical and high cost elevator addition is key to the accessibility and inclusiveness of the entire centre. All donations of $1,000 or more in support of the elevator addition will be recognized on a separate donor wall located in close proximity to the elevator.
